I ask if they worry about the spicy food impacting their performance in the competition.

LOPEZ VINCENT GIOVANNI American Runner "No, because it's not that spicy. It's spicy, but it's good spicy."

JOHNSON KAYRON MELICK American Runner "No. I don't think that will impact me. I'm a fan of spicy. So I usually eat spicy."

The mouthwatering street snacks are also a popular choice. But just as hot as the food is the hospitality of the locals.

The university students say they feel right at home here. They exchange special edition pins with locals and even join citizens in the popular "square dance."

For the athletes, the event is not just about the competition. It's an opportunity to make new friends, and explore the city's culture in their own special way.

DALAL VIKAS Indian Athlete "We are very sad. We don't want to go from here. We really appreciate that China is very very beautiful, people are so good. They are very helpful."
